WHO: World Health Care Ranking

So, remember during the health care debate..that whole thing about America ranking like, what, 38th or some nonsense?

Well, remember, that ranking is determined by weighing several factors, among them are infant mortality statistics, availability of medical care and life expectancy.

Life Expectancy.  Seems fair, right?  I mean, what better way to measure your country’s medical/health care than to measure the single best outcome…how long a person lives.

And guess where America ranks?  Guess who’s #1?

If There Was Any Doubt

Just in case any of us have forgotten, the point of a Union is too…..

Shortly after being ousted, Mr. Rosselli did create a rival union, and now he is trying to lure many of his former members — 43,000 workers at Kaiser Permanente, the largest health care provider in the state.

On Monday, workers at 331 Kaiser facilities across California began voting by mail on whether to bolt the S.E.I.U. and join Mr. Rosselli’s group, the National Union of Healthcare Workers.

Ahh yes.  Mr. Rosselli left his old organization because they simply weren’t representing the worker like he thought they should be.  As such, he is building a NEW organization so that the “little guy” is taken care of.

Right?

Wrong.

New Government Policy

Quick, no googlly-ogglly-Google.

What nation said this:

X-Nation announced on Monday it would lay off “at least” half a million state workers over the next six months and simultaneously allow more jobs to be created in the private sector as the socialist economy struggles to get back on its feet.

“Our state cannot and should not continue maintaining companies, productive entities and services with inflated payrolls and losses that damage our economy and result counterproductive, create bad habits and distort workers’ conduct,”

…the government “agreed to broaden the exercise of self employment and its use as another alternative for the employment of those excess workers.”

The Market [Literally] Shall Restore You

Flu shots too hard to get?

Doctor’s office run out?

Making an appointment is too hard to manage?

Actually taking time off to go to the doctor’s office inconvienient?

Check this out:

Not only can I buy groceries at this store, I can buy beer and wine.  I can buy local farm fresh produce from local growers.  I can fill a prescription.  Not only can I fill a prescription, but I can enroll in a program that will get me many medications at $9.99 for a THREE MONTH supply.  Not only that, but I can now walk up, without an appointment, bill my insurance or pay directly and get a flu shot.

At the grocery store.

Not one single vote or law was required for this advancement to occur.  Only that reasonable people, willing to trade time and property be allowed to meet in a market and trade.

Hurricane Season: Update

Wowie wow wow!

Here comes the storms.

Igor went from baby to monster just like that.  And behind him is tropical storm Julia.

That puts us at:

  • Named storms – 10
  • Hurricanes – 4
  • Major Hurricanes – 3
  • Landfall – 0

Right about now, we should have expected to see 7-10 named storms with 4-6 hurricanes.

Right on track.

More Cash For Clunkers Down the Shit Hole

Last week I talked a bit about the waste of money that we named “Cash for Clunkers”.

In short, what I said was that car purchases are elastic.  People can pull forward or push out the purchase of a new car by several months.  In this case it turns out to be 7:

The government’s “cash for clunkers” program boosted auto sales by 360,000 during the two months it was in place.  In the seven months that followed, sales were down by 360,000 compared with what they would have been without the program…

Basically, 7 months after cash for clunkers ended, the same amount of cars wound up being sold.

Wanna know the unintended consequence?

Senate Race 2010: X

Labor day-Gone.

Full on campaign season-Here.

And this is what the folks who are bettin’ are sayin’:

The money says that there is a better than 50% chance the Republicans will have 49 seats after this fall’s election.

In less than 2 years since “Yes We Can”, Obama has found himself with “Change it Back”.

A Call For Tolerance

The Bible is the Holy Word of God.  Written by man but directed by God.

The Koran is the same thing, perhaps to Muslims, even more.  In some ways, it may BE Allah.

Burning it, or even threatening to burn it is an insult.

And that crazy Pastor Jones SHOULD be called out for this nonsense.  People are right to be outraged.

But where is the outcry against this?

2 Days 3 Milestones

So, Wednesday, I set a record for most hits in a day.

Then I broke it Thursday.

And on Thursday, I had more than 100 hits in a day.

Awesome stuff.
