Dirty Rotten No Good Unions

And I don’t like ’em very much either.

Greece and California aren’t the only governments in a world of hurt because of the power of Unions.  New York is getting hammered too.

So Much For The GM Love

So the other day I gushed about my man crush with GM.  I love Chevy and have always rooted against Ford.  But with the government bailout of GM and the destruction of 100 year old bankruptcy law by the administration, I left my love on the side of the road and embraced Ford.

I was only too happy to have GM pay back their money.

The Post Office is Running LA

Watch this guys.  California is the state with the biggest hand out infrastructure in the Nation.  They have more entitlement programs than you can shake a stick at.  And YOU are going to bail ’em out.

Dubious Praise

This week the vaunted magazine, “The Economist” featured an article on the schools here in Wake County:

…In 2000 Wake County’s school board decided to integrate its schools by income level rather than race. No more than 40% of students at any one school should be receiving free or subsidised lunches (which are given to children from poor families). Evidence dating back more than 40 years shows that schools with too great a concentration of poor pupils are undesirable. Teachers do not stay, and poor pupils tend to perform worse when they are put with others who are poor.

…on March 23rd the board voted 5-4 to abandon that policy.

Unions: How to Devastate an Organization

Look.  Unions are wicked wicked things.  And they are not stupid.  They will attach themselves to any host they can find and suck as much of it’s life out as it can.  But they won’t kill the host.

Union Damage: Teachers Union Edition

If it were up to me, I fire every union teacher in my schools.  And hire back the good ones on the condition that they consider themselves “management”.

The Best Way to Get Rid of Junk

Auction it.

EGELSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich.  —  An anonymous buyer has purchased a western Michigan pedestrian bridge for $1.

But why would the government sell a perfectly good bridge for a buck?

Egelston Township used the bridge to give students safe passage to an elementary school. The school no longer is used for elementary students.

Egelston Township Supervisor Mike Thompson … was worried about the safety of the seldom-used, 39-year-old structure.

Can you imagine how much it would cost the township to think about, debate, vote, put to bid and then PAY union workers to tear down that bridge?  Hell, itta be 10 years before that sucker finally came down; due to torrential rain or some other such nonsense.

Government should guide, market should do!

Capitalism: Millions of People Are Being Yanked Out of Abject Poverty Daily

It’s a pretty familiar refrain “Everything is made in China, that’s why it’s so cheap!”

This is usually followed up with the typical “slave labor” and “sweat shop” and other oft trotted out horror stories.

How to Sell More Beer

Many of my friends work in the service industry.  Some either currently own or have owned their own joint.  Many have managed one.  When discussing politics or economics with the more liberal of them, I often get push back on my thoughts and ideas.  The concept that a free’er market would help everyone is foreign to them.  The idea that reducing or eliminating the minimum wage is a horror story; they run away screaming.

But I just go back to the bar room.  And I ask 1 simple question:

Awesome

Some say Obama is a Socialist.  Some say he is a Communist.  Others even say he is a fascist.  What is harder to dispute is what Karl Marx was.
