Teen Unemployment: What Drives It

The minimum wage debate is an old favorite. Another very visible and clear line of disagreement between conservatives and liberals. There are those on one side that feel we should increase the minimum wage to a level that better represents a living wage. Other, myself included, feel that wages are best left to the negotiations of the employer and the employee.

There are all kinds of debates raging about that people aren’t able to afford to raise a family on the minimum wage. Heck, it can be legitimately argued that you can’t raise YOURSELF on minimum wage. Be that as it may, I don’t wanna get into that. What I wanna look at is what the impact of the minimum wage, specifically changing it, has on the folks earning it.

Let’s look.

Quid pro Quo

For every decision there is a consequence.

Every action, they say an equal but opposite reaction.  Not acting is, in a way, a decision.

I wonder how the Left feels about military assistance now?

AJDABIYAH, Libya — Moammar Gadhafi’s jets bombed Libyan rebel strongholds on Monday, aiding a counter-offensive that has pushed insurgents 100 miles eastward in a week…

Behind rebel lines, Libyan planes bombed Ajdabiyah on Monday, the only sizeable town between Brega and the rebel stronghold of Benghazi. From Ajdabiyah there are roads to Benghazi and to Tobruk to the east, which could allow Gadhafi’s troops to encircle Benghazi.

An indication on how far to the left the US has moved?

France pressed for a no-fly zone “as fast as possible.”

France.  France is calling for a stronger military action than we are.

And what happens as we continue to allow this to continue?

There is now a very real possibility that by the time world powers agree on a response to the conflict in Libya, Gadhafi’s forces may already have won.

Look.  I’m all for lettin’ the world burn.  And I’l all for steppin’ in a helpin’ out.  But either way, we’re ALL in or ALL out.

Just sayin’.

Conservatives Are Controlling The Message

For a long LONG time, the message has been dominated by the Left.  They have all the coolest rock stars and movie stars and funny people.

They play on populist messages like “Power to the people” and “Make love not war”.

The message, since the dawn of time, has been their strength.

But that’s changing.

Media Bias

Each side accuses the other of media bias.  Fox gets hammered by the Left and everyone else gets hammered by the Right.

But what is it exactly, that the media does that creates this impression of bias?  What is it that strikes someone as “unfair” and “unbalanced”?

For me, it’s not the truth of the story, it’s the profile of the stories themselves.  Rachel Maddow, for example, doesn’t lie, she just doesn’t run disparaging stories against Democrats.  Hannity same but reversed.

So, here is my example of bias in the media.  A bias in an organization that I think TRIES not to be bias.

A Voice of Reason Comes From the Left

The money isn’t big; on either side.  The amount of money the Federal Government gives to NPR isn’t a significant portion of what the Federal Government spends.

AND, the amount of money that the Federal Government gives to NPR isn’t a significant portion of the money that NPR spends.

But it matters.  It matters because the act of giving that money is an act of explicit approval.  Approval for the way that NPR runs it’s business.

And many don’t agree.

Another Example Of Good Ideas Gone Wrong

I have come to understand that many of the friends and colleagues I disagree with are not disagreeing with me because they want bad things to happen.  On the contrary, I feel that those folks are just as interested in the welfare of our country and the people in it as I am.

Rather than mean spirited, they are well intentioned.  It’s just that each have our own version of the path to those intentions.

But, when well intentioned people craft laws in the dead of night and don’t read those laws, bad things happen.

Right-Wing Nut vs. Left-Wing Nut

One of my friends on Facebook posted something about Planned Parenthood a couple of weeks ago.  She tends to favor the Liberal side.  And while I trend Liberal on Social issues, I find myself taking middle ground on abortion.

We had a wonderful discussion.  While it was me debating 2-3 more Liberal friends, it was polite, engaging and civil.

Only In a Leftist America

Only if you are a Democrat will you give someone the choice to take the life of a child but deny them the choice of belonging to a Union.

Behold The Unionista

These are teachers.

These are people who teach our children to love learning.  To respect others.  To play nice.

And this is what we get:  From Althouse

Unions!  Fire every single one of these union workers that called in sick to protest!

I Don’t Think That Word Means What You Think It Means

The most famous line in the world: North Carolina State Politics Edition.

With a charging Republican majority in North Carolina, the State is getting ready to make some serious budget cuts.  People are going to have to sacrifice, to be sure.  And the deeper and sooner that sacrifice occurs, the better off the financial stability of the State.

Yet, no one can accept that fact.
