Taxation: How They Roll In France

Taxes

And I thought that I had it bad when I discovered I paid a higher effective tax rate than Obama:

More than 8,000 French households’ tax bills topped 100 percent of their income in 2012, according to a French newspaper report.

Jackers.

The French, The French Are Here!

Homework

Last year France continued its tradition of insane statist ways by announcing intentions to ban homework in its schools.  The reason?

The justification for this proposed ban? Inequality. According to a statement from an official at the French Embassy, “When it comes to homework, the President said it should be done during school hours rather than at home, in order to establish equal opportunities.” Homework favors the wealthy, Hollande argues, because they are more likely to have a good working environment at home, including parents with the time and energy to help them with their work.

Inequality.

Homework favors the wealthy.

My gawd!

At the time, I sent this to a buddy of mine and he mentioned, “Thank goodness that’ll never happen here in America.”

I pointed out that it does happen here in America, for example, take health care.  To his credit he walked away 😉

But now it HAS happened in America:

IPSWICH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – An Ipswich principal is in hot water with some parents after he reportedly canceled the middle school’s Honors Night.

David Fabrizio, principal of Ipswich Middle School, notified parents of his plan to eliminate the school’s Honors Night last week.

“The Honors Night, which can be a great sense of pride for the recipients’ families, can also be devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade point average,” Fabrizio penned in his first letter to parents.

Fabrizio also said he decided to make the change because academic success can be influenced by the amount of support a student receives at home and not all students receive the same level of emotional and academic support at home.

Success is influenced by the amount of support a student receives at home…

Beware the French, before you know it they’ll teach us how to surrender.

French Unions

FailCould it get worse than that?

Anyway, turns out that France is trying to induce business to invest in France.  And one of the areas is in tire manufacturing:

French Industry Minister Arnaud Montebourg had asked the U.S. mogul [Maurice Taylor of Titan] to take over a Goodyear tire factory that is due to close.

The factory is located in Amiens in France’s industrial heartland, 75 miles north of Paris. Goodyear Tire & Rubber company reported in January that it will close the unprofitable plant, putting around 1,000 workers out of jobs.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the French factory is full of union workers, that they are wonderfully unproductive and THAT is the reason why the plant is:

  1. Closing
  2. Not going to be purchased by Titan

“How stupid do you think we are?” wrote Maurice Taylor, in a letter to French Industry Minister Arnaud Montebourg, obtained by French business newspaper Les Echos on Wednesday.

“I have visited that factory a couple of times. The French workforce gets paid high wages, but works only three hours. They get one hour for breaks and lunch, talk for three and work for three hours,” he wrote.

“I told this to the French union workers to their faces. They told me that’s the French way!”

“Titan is going to buy a Chinese tire company or an Indian one, pay less than one Euro per hour wage and ship all the tires France needs,” he wrote. “You can keep the so-called workers. Titan has no interest in the Amiens North factory.”

Yup.  Sounds about right to me.

And One Sentence Sums It All Up

Reuters has a nice article discussing the trouble France is in.  We all know that the French are one of the leading examples of a bloated government gone bad.

Too much spending on programs that have nothing to do with a government governing.  The whole thing is worth the read. The money sentence:

France is too generous so people take it for granted.

Indeed.

There Is Hope

And who would have thought it would come from, of all places, France?

I mock France in all of its caricatures.  The social state, the welfare, the lifestyle and the arrogance.  I do.  I admit it, in fact, I embrace it.  But I have to admit, I took hope in France tonight.

Free Health Care Leads To Not Free Health Care

Ask anyone on the street if they would be willing to see the needy get the medical care they need and the answer is a massive “Hell yeah!”.  But ask them HOW that is to happen and you get a whole bunch of, “Hell, I da’know.”.

And so’s the quandary of the average American.

And so it is, when faced with work, and love, and school and bills and and and…we are willing, almost demanding, that this burden be taken from us and handled by someone else.  The Genesis.   The lightning striking the mud.

Governments Around The World Call For Alternative Forms Of Communication

Yup.

It’s true.

Man made cancer is here!  And we have to stop it!

Already, Democrat Senators in Washington are crafting legislation that would tax abusive profits that these large corporations are extorting from the public.  All the while, their products are killing us.

A high ranking official in Northern Virginia is quoted as saying, “Unless we get back to 1980 levels, we’re gonna see more and more human death and suffering.  We need legislation to protect the people from this alarming rate of damage!”

New calls for alternative technologies are being sounded.  Taxes are going to have to be raised in order to fund emerging technologies.  Whole new industries are going to have to be created, along with the jobs they drive, in order to fight this global pandemic.

Scientists now all agree, we are going to die!

An international panel of experts says cellphones are possibly carcinogenic to humans after reviewing details from dozens of published studies.

The statement was issued in Lyon, France, on Tuesday by the International Agency for Research on Cancer after a weeklong meeting of experts. They reviewed possible links between cancer and the type of electromagnetic radiation found in cellphones, microwaves and radar.

The agency is the cancer arm of the World Health Organization and the assessment now goes to WHO and national health agencies for possible guidance on cellphone use.

It’s over.

WHO and France, scientists and studies.

It’s over.

Throw your cell phones away or we will ALL die!

Or…..not.

Quid pro Quo

For every decision there is a consequence.

Every action, they say an equal but opposite reaction.  Not acting is, in a way, a decision.

I wonder how the Left feels about military assistance now?

AJDABIYAH, Libya — Moammar Gadhafi’s jets bombed Libyan rebel strongholds on Monday, aiding a counter-offensive that has pushed insurgents 100 miles eastward in a week…

Behind rebel lines, Libyan planes bombed Ajdabiyah on Monday, the only sizeable town between Brega and the rebel stronghold of Benghazi. From Ajdabiyah there are roads to Benghazi and to Tobruk to the east, which could allow Gadhafi’s troops to encircle Benghazi.

An indication on how far to the left the US has moved?

France pressed for a no-fly zone “as fast as possible.”

France.  France is calling for a stronger military action than we are.

And what happens as we continue to allow this to continue?

There is now a very real possibility that by the time world powers agree on a response to the conflict in Libya, Gadhafi’s forces may already have won.

Look.  I’m all for lettin’ the world burn.  And I’l all for steppin’ in a helpin’ out.  But either way, we’re ALL in or ALL out.

Just sayin’.
