The Power of Technology

I was taking Tyler out to eat last night.  I had picked him up from school and we was a jammin’ to the radio. During one of the commercials I heard about a TV show I wanted to record.

Going Green: Solar Update III

Alright, last update on household appliances.  I measured my laptop and found that it uses less energy than a 60 W light bulb.  In short, the pay back time for a laptop is 5.67 years.

But, if I plug in the fish tank, the lamp and the laptop the pay back time comes in at 1.65 years.  Not bad, not bad at all.

Preferred Route as Advocated by the Government Run Bus Service: Walk

If you want an example of government efficiency at it’s very VERY best, check this out:

Mike Munger, in an effort to be green in his life, albeit where it makes sense, tried using the Raleigh Transit Bus service to get from his house to the airport.  For suggestions on potential routes, he went to the service’s website and submitted his request.  He got two answers.  The first suggested that he walk 3.25 miles and catch the bus to the airport.

Going Green: Solar Update II

So I left the Kill a Watt meter in place for 50..56 hours.  The tank consumed 1.33 kWH for a total of .0263 kWH per hour.  At that rate, the system would pay itself off in 7.65 years.  That’s a little bit of improvement on the tank.  I think it’s due to the fact that most of the last measurement was taken with the lights off.  Still, with that 60w bulb, the payback is coming in under 2.42.

Next measurement will be the computer.

Market Forces at Work

This is what happens when the medical care industry is exposed to the free market.

Unemployment?

Clear case of marginal value. In this case, not only do you get to earn money but they almost certainly let their folks eat for free.

Health Insurance: Moral Hazard

It is a law of “Economic Physics”.  Health insurance can not cost less than the cost of medical care.  If a group of people consume $10,000 worth of medical expenses per year, the sum of the premiums collected from all members of that group HAVE to be no less than $10,000.

State's Rights

Banned Wheat

We’ll see if the benefits of the Obama Administration are worth the damage he is sure to cause.  But assuredly one  of the very VEST things to happen as a result of him is the awakening of the American Dynamism.  The idea that WE are in control of our lives and choices.  And one of the leaders in this awakening is an unlikely State:  Minnesota.

Out with the new. In with the old.

Time For a New Plan

From Sea to Shining Sea

It started in Virginia and moved to New Jersey.  After that, the momentum swept to Massechusetts [heh heh – dumb bitch misspelled her own state!].  But beyond that, the writing has been on the wall for some time now:

“We didn’t like the Republicans but this, THIS, is NOT what we had in mind!
