Governor Purdue: Spend More on Education – Tax More on Citizens

North Carolina government continues to debate the budget.  Even as the state’s deficit grows, the governor refuses to step back from spending.  And the number 1 line item in the budget?

Education.

This is governor Purdue’s explanation:

“We cannot go backward on education. It’s part of who we are as a people in this state and it’s what has differentiated us as a leader in the South,” Perdue said, according to her staff. “We are North Carolina, and we have chosen to become that because of our generational legacy of education.”

We cannot go backward.  Backward.

In what way and manner is she thinking we’ll go backward?

Spending?

Sure, but more spending doesn’t equate to better education.

She is preaching the old Democrat canard; Defend the defined solution – Don’t debate the problem.

See, the Democrats feel that the only way to improve education is to spend more.  Therefore they feel that as long as they are able to defend the fact that we want to improve education, and who doesn’t, we should only continue to spend more and more.

Yet not one once of study goes into the fact that education outcomes don’t always depend on money.

Life Is Good

Listen.  I’m busy.  Work, church, kids, Lodge and other activities demand from me a ton of time.  A TON!

Enough time such that I don’t have time to play Sony Playstation at all.

1.  Because I don’t wanna spend the little free time I do have playing Playstation.

2.  Because I don’t wanna become addicted when I realize how flippin’ fun it is.

Which just makes this unbelievable:

Raleigh, N.C. — A security breach on the Sony PlayStation Network might have put at risk the personal information of more than 780,000 North Carolinians, state Attorney General Roy Cooper said Friday.

You’ve gotta be shittin’ me!  780,000 people have a Playstation in North Carolina?  Carolina only has 8,049,313 people in the whole state.  And if that isn’t bad enough, there are only 3,132,013 households.  That means there is a Playstation in nearly 1 out of 4 homes!

And those 780,000 people are only the ones who have signed up for online Playstation network.

Yeah, life sure sucks for a lot of people!

When Does It End?

I mentioned the other day, I like going to the YMCA The Y.  I used to go because I liked to run, swim and just kinda work out.  Now, I go mostly to feel better.

In other words, I just hit the hot tub, the sauna and the steam room.

And then I leave.

But I feel REALLY good!

But this week I wasn’t able to get my full allotment of feel good.  And wanna know why?

Government.

Teacher Insurance Rates: Teachers Pay Their Own Premium

North Carolina is broke.  Ba-Roe-K.

Hear it people.  We have no more money and things are gonna have to change.  And one of those things is that people who used to have the State pay for things are now going to have to pay for those things themselves!

Some will say that this is a pay cut, but I disagree.  It’s not a pay cut.  After all, it can’t be a pay cut if you didn’t count it as pay to begin with!

The Liberals Of Today Don’t Remember The Lessons Of Yesterday

And it’s not their fault.  See, the Liberals of yesterday have grown up and become the Conservatives of today.

Our problem is that we keep having children who become Liberals for a short time before reaching full adulthood.

Now, to be sure, some of those kids become infatuated with the concept of Liberalism and make it a lifestyle, but by and large….our youth outgrow their Liberal tendencies nicely.

Which leads me to this point.

We know that the housing bubble lead to our current economic malaise.  AND we know what lead to the housing bubble.

The problem?  Yesterdays children don’t.

Swimmin’ Wit Da Fishes

In breaking news, the sand and sand bars of North Carolina’s Outer Banks are prone to shifting, moving and overall change.  What once was impassable water often turns into a navigable channel.  In a similar manner, mother nature may decide that she would like to “fallow” a section of the sea from time to time.

This should not surprise any one.  Or alarm them.

But the expectations and actions of our government is both surprising AND alarming.

We Need A State Law To Prevent Cheap Gas?

A new gas station opened up in a North Carolina town recently.  As it turns out, that gas station is interested in attracting customers AND selling things other than gas.

It would seem that station owners would or should be able to adjust the price of their gas at whatever levels they see fit.  Higher prices would generate more money per gallon to be sure, but lower prices would generate more gallons.

Discretion of the station owner, right?

Wrong.

Silence For You – Tolerance For Me

Pastors Terry Jones and Wayne Sapp are loathsome individuals to be sure.  It’s one thing to hold a belief, to claim faith and ardently follow your heart and spirit through the religion you choose.  But to purposely insult, demean and antagonize another set of beliefs is simply horrible.

Further, it’s inconsistent with the message of most mainline religions.  As a Christian I practice patience, tolerance and love of my neighbors.  Even my enemies.  As such, even if, and I certainly don’t hold this belief, but even if those of another religion were my “enemy” I find consistency in the Lords commandment to “love thy enemy”.

To burn the most Holy Book of Islam is an insult that goes too far.

With that said, I am finding the inconsistency in response appalling.

Supporting Education And Supporting Teachers

There is a difference.

There is a clear difference in supporting the educational needs of our children and supporting “teachers”.  For example, in one case it means that we are dedicated to improving the system that delivers learning to our most precious resource.  The other case means that we’re just blindly supporting people who think they’re teachers.

And that kinda pisses me off.

Are Unions Evil?

I think it’s important to ask and then answer this question.  Are Unions, by themselves, bad or damaging?

My answer might surprise you.  And that might be my fault for not explaining my position well enough.  I do not think that the act of individual laborers joining together collectively and forming a union is, by itself, a bad thing.
