As we transition from Global Warming into climate change, we continue to debate the science.
We point to historical levels of CO2 and the temperature at the time. We can look at the rise in the concentration of CO2 in recent years and watch as recent temperatures soar.
But can we use the data that we think we have and make a prediction that turns out to be accurate?
Time thought it did. I think they’re wrong.
We see what happens when a House of Congress has a significant hold on the majority. And we see it when the part line is at its strongest; we get the US House of Representatives. A powerful and respected body to be sure, but one that moves so fast and with such little input by the minority it can be dizzying.
If the partisanship is bad enough and/or the majority strong enough, the minority, in some cases, may not even need bother show up.
So we have the filibuster. To calm the rushing tide of the majority. To protect the nation from the tyranny of the majority. To that end, it has served it’s purpose for a long long time.
But the time may have come to change the rules.

The argument made for the case of abortion is that it’s a woman’s choice what she wants to do with her body. And to the extent that we’re talking about her body, I couldn’t agree more.
Tattoo? Go for it.
Piercing? Have at it.
Cut your hair? Dye your hair? Cut your finger nails? All yours.
But does there exist a moment in time when the “woman’s body” transforms into the body of the child? That is, is there a time, after conception and before literal birth when the collection of cells goes from a biology experiment to a living human?

There is nothing government can do to help.
Government, in it’s purest form is a concept rooted in “negative liberty“. That is:
Negative liberty is defined as freedom from interference by other people…
That is, Liberty is best defined as that state found when living alone, on that “deserted island” where no man can take or demand.
On that island, a man is free and owns his liberty.
If, in the course of living, another should try to take from him his liberty, he is within “justice” to defend his self, his property and his life.
Government is nothing more than the collective acting as the individual in saying, you may not do this thing.
So be careful when the government comes to you offering you help.

He was a leader.
He was an innovator.
He stood up when many wouldn’t. He preached love while others practiced hate.
He took the worst of us, saw the best in them and made us ALL believe that not only should we do better, but that we all would do better.
Martin’s message meant and means many things, but it doesn’t mean that we can use race as a means to implement policy.
China is reporting that the nation is experiencing localized brown outs. Cities are without electric power.
Why?
Because power plants don’t have coal to make electricity.
Why?
No one is mining coal. No money in it.
Why?
The Chinese government mandates coal below market rates.
Econ 101.
I didn’t listen to Obama live the other night as he delivered his speech in Tucson. Partly ’cause I was busy but mostly because I didn’t wanna listen to him talk on about the events.
I’m jaded. I’m bias.
My die is cast.
He has a long LONG way to go to create an environment in which I see him in a different light than I did, say, yesterday morning.
But I watched this speech just now.
Events like this are seminal. We’ll remember this forever. Or for a long time at least. Maybe it’ll linger only for those of us old enough and plugged in enough to know what happened.
For my kids, it might make a note in the history book for their civics course; maybe not.
I get twisted by stuff like this. All the normal stuff to be sure. The tragedy of the story, the victims that passed away, the victims that lived. Hell, the victim that is the shooter – what musta happened to him to make him wanna do that.
But somewhere inside, I felt we were missin’ somethin’.
Thankfully much of the rhetoric surrounding global warming climate change has died down. With the stunning leak of the papers in the UK and with Al Gore revealing how he trumped up the crisis so that he could do well in Iowa, we are seeing the outcry begin to diminish.
But it’s still out there and we need to pay attention. So, here it is, a small lesson in what makes the planet warm and cold.
Taking my morning coffee reading the internet. Saw an article that grabbed my interest:

I decided to take a look, I was interested in what the survey used as criteria in making their ranking. While the exact order of the list would be interesting in a trivia sort of way, I knew that the northern states would rank near the top while the deep south struggled. I guessed that Mississippi would rank either 50th or 49th.
Low and behold, what to my wondering eyes did appear?
