The constant screech from the left is that the conservative doesn’t care about the woman. The day doesn’t go by that you don’t hear the familiar refrain:
Republicans don’t care about women’s reproductive health.
It’s a veritable war on women.
But is it? Or is it really just the left’s unholy preoccupation with abortion that’s at the root of all of this?
Pat Robertson has long been a champion of the “moral majority.” He’s an evangelical’s evangelical.
So when Pat says it’s time to legalize pot you know the time has come:
Of the many roles Pat Robertson has assumed over his five-decade-long career as an evangelical leader — including presidential candidate and provocative voice of the right wing — his newest guise may perhaps surprise his followers the most: marijuana legalization advocate.
“I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol,” Mr. Robertson said in an interview on Wednesday. “I’ve never used marijuana and I don’t intend to, but it’s just one of those things that I think: this war on drugs just hasn’t succeeded.”
Mr. Robertson’s remarks echoed statements he made last week on “The 700 Club,” the signature program of his Christian Broadcasting Network, and other comments he made in 2010. While those earlier remarks were largely dismissed by his followers, Mr. Robertson has now apparently fully embraced the idea of legalizing marijuana, arguing that it is a way to bring down soaring rates of incarceration and reduce the social and financial costs.
“I believe in working with the hearts of people, and not locking them up,” he said.
Just goes to show ya that when we say “conservative” we mean “classic liberalism.”
Bill O’Reilly has launched a pretty big offensive regarding the price of gasoline. He’s been on air several times extolling the administration to get ahead of the situation and take a leadership role. Personally, I’m not sure that Obama has had much influence on the price of gasoline today. Prices are high today not because of supply and demand, policies where Obama is clearly wrong, but because of the tension in the Middle East. Specifically with Iran.
Given the nature of the world market there is no wonder that gasoline prices are going up. And fast.
But O’Reilly loses me on his solutions.
I don’t really like guns. Never really have.
I grew up with a BB gun; could hit the eye of a bird flyin’ too. But I never went beyond that. I never had a shotgun or eve a .22. I was happy shootin’ my tin cans.
So, I get that people don’t like guns. I get that if a person doesn’t have a gun, it’s harder to hurt someone. I get all that.
But, it’s a right that has been established; we GET to own a gun if we want to. And the reason we get that right is that it’s important that the government isn’t the only people with the guns.
But still; I don’t like guns. But I love kids more.
So the claim is that there’s a “war on religion” going on. And when you hear that you can safely substitute “religion” for “Christianity.” I’m not sure that war is the right word, but there is clearly an over-reach by the left when it comes to the separation of the church and the state.
We know what they meant when they crafted the nation. They meant that the “officers” of the church were not to be the “officers” of the state. The two couldn’t be the same. They most certainly, and clearly, did NOT mean that there was to be no religion in the state.

How cool to find a sympathetic voice in Hungary:
I will only give you a job if:
- I can fire you, when and if I want to.
- If VAT goes down to at most 20%, but better yet 15%.
- If the state takes away “only” 30% of your money.
- If higher income is not exponentially punished.
- If the state punishes corruption instead of decent companies.
Until these things change, I won’t give a job. Until the state ferrets out corruption in every possible aspect, I won’t start a business, and I won’t create jobs.
There are things that contribute to people giving people jobs and then things that discourage such activity.

Earlier this month I posted on the frustration of certain members of Occupy Raleigh. It seemed that the “1%” of the movement was beginning to get fed up with the “99%.”
To those of you who continue to complain, and whine, and bitch, and moan about the camp – just fucking stop. We are all tired of hearing it. If you have a problem at the camp, come fix it. I can not fix everything myself. Jes can not fix everything herself. Thomas can not fix everything by himself. Nor can Charles, Susie, or any of the other people who do put an effort in.
In some ways this Occupy movement is a useful lesson to those involved. It’s perhaps their first involvement in running an organization. In generating consensus, in knowing when consensus is a paralyzing goal. For the first time in life these folks might be managing people. However, for some of the citizens of this society, enough simply became enough.
They “Gone Galt.”

In the last 6 years, the government has done stuff that leaves me wondering if there is a limit to what it can do.
For example, we see bills such as the Patriot Act passed into law that really push the limits on government intrusion. If they can do “that”, what can’t they do?
Then there were the wars in foreign nations. If we can just do “that”, is there any thing that we can’t do?
Then TARP, TARP II and the bailout of the car companies.
All of which leads us to Obamacare and the preventative care mandate.
What can’t they do?

When I think of the proper separation of church and state I think of the concept of the institutions. I really think the intent of the separation came about because back in the history of the founding, the head of England was also the head of the church. They were, in many respects, the same.
This lead to the condition where the official function of state was to discourage, and even make it illegal to practice, other religions. I don’t think it was the goal of the time to make sure government didn’t contain religion, only that it not BE religion. There are numerous instances of examples of this belief.

I recently posted about the city of Cary, NC allowing a small flock of hens within city limits. The idea that keeping animals is a decision that should be up to the property owner not the local federales. I was impressed with Cary, a notorious regulatory city, in allowing the chickens. We’ll see if the ordinance passes.
It is in this spirit that I was discouraged to read a related issue in the town of Louisburg. However, rather than granting the freedom, the city restricted it.
