A Him

Let’s get one thing clear.

  1. I care for the people less fortunate.
  2. The government has no role in that caring.

Okay, that’s two, but the second is important.  The government has a role.  And that role is to act as the referee in disputes.  It is to make sure that we all face the same rules and laws.  Sure, there is a cost in maintaining a government, so we tax to pay for it.  But that role of government is not meant to take money from those who have it and just flat out GIVE it to those who don’t.

When that role is given to the government, bad things happen.  Really bad things.

Dear Valued Employee, Thank You For “X” Years Of Service

We’ve all been on the receiving end of that letter.  The CEO of the company “sends” you the letter that officially congratulates you on the number of years of service to the company.  The big years fall on the “Fives”; 10-15-20 etc.

The whole idea of this is that of reward.  Recognition that you have been able to contribute to the viability of the company for those 15 or so years.  And the further up you go, the larger the recognition that you actually “survive”.  And, further, that the company “survived” as well.

See, each of us has a relationship with our employer.  We stay employed as long as these conditions are met:

  1. The burden of going to the office and giving up 40 hours a week is overcome by the amount of money and other benefits I get from the firm.
  2. The burden of compensating the employee is overcome by the productivity they give the firm.

That is, it has to be worth it to both the employee AND the employer.  When it no longer satisfies those criteria; separation occurs.

Jon Stewart Winked

So, last we spoke about Jon Stewart, I was complaining that he let Weiner off the hook.  I made mention of this fact because I felt that Jon is Liberal, Anthony is Liberal and so, Jon let him free.  In retrospect I suspect that the reason Jon Stewart went easy on Anthony Weiner was because the two are friends.

Fair enough.

But tonight I’m catching up on my “The Daily Show” and Jon is mocking Chris Wallace and his interview of Stewart.

In that interview, Jon asks Chris, “Do you think I’m an ideological partisan activist?”

Chris answered, “Yes.”

And Stewart responded that he disagreed with Wallace.

Really?

Jon devouts hours of his time to the mocking of Fox News for being “unbalanced.”  A view I happen to agree with.  It’s clear that Fox takes the conservative “side” in the reporting of the news.  And if Jon felt that he needed to defend his honor in being a comic that comes across as a neutral player, you would think that he would mock MSNBC for the same bias tendencies that Fix has.

None.  Nary a word.

CNN?  Sure.

MSNBC?  Maddow?  Matthews?  Obelrman?

Chirp Chirp.

Stewart is a partisan hack.  He’s funny and talented.  To be very clear, he’s VERY talented.

But he’s a hack.

I was wrong, Jon didn’t blink; he winked.

Jon Stewart Blinked

Anthony Weiner is a dumb ass.  We knew this long before his recent history making revelations.  However, now we know about his history making revelations.

And, if you have any kind of sense of humor, his history making revelations are hilarious.

Just the kind of story for Jon.

But Anthony is a friend.  And so Jon let him off.

Jon Stewart claims he’s a comedian and that he just makes fun of the political theater in front of him.  But he doesn’t.

He had The Weiner in his sights.  And he blinked.

He’s a good friend.  But he’s not just a “political comedian” either.

Casey Anthony

I think every single person in America feels she knows that something horrible happened to her daughter AND that she knows who did what.

But she ain’t sayin’.

And THAT is bullshit.

But it doesn’t mean she’s guilty of 1st degree murder.

Irony

I get it,  I do.  I get the idea that we wanna be able to choose for ourselves the risks we face each day.  At some point, the danger of NOT doing is greater than the actual doing.

The freedom of experience is almost always a significant amount of the joy.

But dang!

ONONDAGA, N.Y. — Police say a motorcyclist participating in a protest ride against helmet laws in upstate New York died after he flipped over the bike’s handlebars and hit his head on the pavement.

Troopers say Contos hit his brakes and the motorcycle fishtailed. The bike spun out of control, and Contos toppled over the handlebars. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Note to Leftists: Just because it’s a good idea does not make it just a-ok to legislate!

Actions Have Consequences

I really enjoy chess.  Well, actually, I wish I really enjoyed chess.  In reality, I’m a horrible chess player; and I know why.

I think the reason I’m such a poor player is that I’m a “selfish” or “arrogant” player.  That is, I assume my opponent will play as I would.  Therefore, when I create my strategy and begin to implement it, I fail to take into account that as the board changes, my opponent is going to react and change his behavior.

I’ve never overcome this failing of mine.  So I lose.

And because I lose, I rarely play.

I can take heart that others face the same challenges.  However, that comfort can also cause great concern.

Greece: How Long Until You Visit Our Shores?

Greece is in trouble.

Big trouble.

Of course, this is what happens when you tax and tax and tax all the while believing that government won’t spend and spend and spend.

In the end, people don’t see the expenditures as a method to deal with a short-term crisis or as a stimulus; they see it as an entitlement.  These people literally feel it is their ‘effin birthright to be be born, work a little while, and then retire to a life of luxury at the ripe old age of 52.

Vacations and wine for everyone!

Well, when the excess of the Leftist rears its ugly hangover, this is what you get:

(Reuters) – Greek riot police with teargas and batons fought hooded youths near parliament on Tuesday as violence broke out at a rally against anti-austerity measures international lenders have demanded from the Athens government.

With Greece on the edge of bankruptcy, parliament is due to vote this week on a package of spending cuts, tax increases and privatizations agreed as part of a massive bailout aimed at averting the euro zone’s first default.

In the face of massive default, they can’t let go the concept that they don’t own what they didn’t earn.

Lord help us!

Pino’ictionary

I’m sure I saw it somewhere – I certainly can’t claim to have coined this phrase on my own.

But I’ll define it:

Climate Rapture – A belief held by AGW alarmists that the amount of climate change caused by mankind will bring about the end of the world.  Full and complete annihilation of Mother Earth is the only acceptable conclusion to the current trajectory of mankind.

Differentiating Characteristic: Open Thread

What is the difference between this:

And this:

To me, it might be that one guy campaigns on family values and the other doesn’t.  That makes it irony or hypocrisy. Or it might be that one guy actually think that family values are meaningful enough to run on and that what we have is a Tragic story in the failures of mankind.  Or maybe its that one guy knows enough to resign and the other doesn’t.
