Do You Know What I See?

Here are pictures from Occupy Wall Street.

Wanna know what I see?

White people.

These people are racists!

Obama and Reagan: Tax Millionaires

Because I think that the debate over taxes has been going on for a long time, and while continue to go on through the election, we should take a break and chuckle:

Even though this pokes fun at my side, I enjoy a good laugh just as much as the next guy.

But let’s be very clear here as well.  There is simply no reasonable argument that can be made that we have a revenue issue that’s contributing to our nation’s debt.  The problem always has and always will be spending.

Further, the idea that Reagan and Obama share the same economic philosophy is laughable.  Even more so than that cute clever video.  Reagan believed in less government.  He felt that government could not and never could, be the solution.  It was government that WAS the problem.  Obama?  Well, he feels very different.  The more that government gets involved, the better off the people of this nation will be is center to Obama’s thinking.

We simply disagree.  And we can’t compromise on that.  How do you compromise with someone who wants to rob your house?  Is it a moral victory to let him “only take” your TV while you get to keep the rest of your property?

No.

Last, the House Republicans led by the fiscal conservatives are doing yeoman’s work.  Obama and the Democrats know that they have no chance what-so-ever of passing nonsense through the House.  So the aren’t even trying.  The bills they craft are being written in such a way that they HOPE they get through.  If the House were less conservative, Obama’s bill would be even worse than they are today.  But, BUT, I feel my comrades are making two critical errors:

  1. Refusing to add revenue simply on principle.
  2. Missing the opportunity to “cash out”.

First, if we can raise revenue without raising rates simply by making the code easier and removing crazy-ass “loopholes”, DO IT!  For gawd’s sake man, take “W”.

Second, i was very distressed to see all Republican candidates raise their hand during one of the debates when asked if the would reject a plan that had 10-1 spending to tax ratios.  Dude, take the flippin’ deal and push away from the table.  Especially if these guys are offering up Social Security and Medi-X.  In fact, if they let me reform either or both of those programs I’d give on taxes in a second.

Anyway.  Enjoy Obama quoting Reagan!

Fast And Furious

Look, I happen to buy into the concept that guns don’t kill people, people do.

With that said, I don’t think that the US government providing weapons to the drug cartels added to the level of violence one iota.  In fact, if the government wanted to use guns as a means to track and capture, or murder with drones, the Mexican bad guys, I’m all for it!

Predictably, my only complaint with the program is that the government screwed up the operation.

Sell the guns.  Only implant GPS chips so that you can track the drone missile targets bad guys.

In related news, I fear the wheels are coming off the Obama Administration:

For the first time, documents appear to show Attorney General Eric Holder was made aware of the Operation Fast and Furious earlier than he claimed — up to 9 nine months earlier.

The documents seem to contradict what Holder told a House Judiciary Committee on May 3, when he said he could not recall the exact date, but he’d “probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.”

It’s over folks.  The “Superbowl is now the League Championship game” as they say.

Obama’s toast.

I Have Two Words

My reaction to this headline can be summed up in two words:

Theater Stagehands in Philadelphia on Strike

Big fuckin’ deal!

Let’em strike.  Let the Leftists be without theater.

Maybe they’ll get back to work.

Race Based Services

Last week, Sean asked if the bake sale in California was racist.

This past Tuesday, the Berkeley College Republicans sponsored a bake sale on campus that sold cupcakes at different prices based on ethnicity. Whites had to pay the highest prices at $2 per cupcake, while Native Americans received the lowest prices at 25 cents.

Now, I’m a firm believer in the Rand Paul version of race relations.  That is, it’s perfectly legal, certainly not reasonable, for a private merchant to serve who he wants.  And not to serve who he doesn’t.  Further, I think the word racist is misused today.  Probably in the same way that liberals feel conservatives misuse Socialist.

Do I think the bake sale is racist?  No.

Do I think it’s discriminatory?  Yes.

Do I think it’s satire in the same way Jon Stewart is satire?  Most certainly.

However, I also think it’s appropriate.  Universities all over the country are going out of their way to sell their “cupcakes” at different prices to different people base don nothing but race.

Consider admission into the University of Wisconsin Law School:

Visually:

So, what’s up with Wisconsin?  Why so racist?  Why is the School of Law at the University of Wisconsin so over the top inappropriate?

I suggest that they’re so inappropriate because they don’t know they are being inappropriate.  Consider admission into the University of Michigan School of Law:

Visually:

And Nebraska:

Visual:

The point?

We make race an issue.  The fact is that the color of your skin DOES matter.  It matters a whole lot.  Wanna get into law school?  Be black.  Wanna NOT get into law school?  Be white.

Is what those kids in California are doing shocking?  Sure, I think so.  Selling a cupcake for less money depending on your skin color IS shocking.  SHOULD be shocking.

But it’s no different that the Leftists selling law degrees for less depending on your skin color.

I’ve Had Enough

Again.

I have some time still, but….but 50 is coming quick.  And I know that as I get closer I’m gonna give a little speed and agility to my son, all of FIVE, as we play soccer and football.  But I simply refuse to yield to him yet.

So, I’m on a mission.

I’m gonna lose 10% of my weight and a run a 1/2 marathon in the next 6 months.

I swear it will be done!

There Is Hope

And who would have thought it would come from, of all places, France?

I mock France in all of its caricatures.  The social state, the welfare, the lifestyle and the arrogance.  I do.  I admit it, in fact, I embrace it.  But I have to admit, I took hope in France tonight.

Kelley Williams-Bolar: Left Into Right

The story of Kelley Williams-Bolar is a sad one.  At least I think it is.  And, and it’s a good one.  The story is about a flawed mother who, in this case, is simply looking to do right by her kids.

In America, that’s about as noble as it gets.

I Did It Too, But You Did It Last

Without a doubt the United States has made mistakes in our dealings with a whole host of people and nations.  In some cases, we were straight forward-no deception, just straight poor behavior.  In other cases, there WAS deception that preceded this poor behavior.

I have always acknowledged that our government’s treatment of native populations, nations and people was unacceptable.  However, I have always been leery at any attempt to make up for this all these years later through reparations or special benefits.

With that in mind, I am planning a family trip this weekend and I came upon this site for one of North Carolina’s State Parks:

The Town of Pilot Mountain is home to Pilot Mountain State Park, which is a remnant of the ancient Sauratown Mountains. The Saura Indians who inhabited the area knew Pilot Mountain as Jomeokee, the “Pilot” or “Great Guide”. The Cherokee Indians eventually drove the Saura Indians out of the area. Pilot Mountain became the 14th State Park in 1968 when it was purchased from Mrs. J.W. Beasley. Pilot Mountain State Park is made up of 3,703 acres of land, which preserves the natural resources of North Carolina.

So, if the United States government is expected to compensate the Cherokee, would the Cherokee than be expected to compensate the Saura?

My guess is probably not.  And why this is stumps me.  I’m sure it has to do with some form of “ism” or intolerance inherent in me; being conservative and all.

Corportations Are Evel Greedy Killers

Further evidence that the government is too slow and inefficient to react and that the private space will always do a better job:

On Tuesday federal officials said that there had been at least 19 previous outbreaks involving more than 1,000 illnesses and three deaths resulting from cantaloupe consumption since 1984. The current outbreak, caused by cantaloupes grown in Colorado, has sickened more than 70 people and killed at least 13, making it the deadliest food-borne outbreak in the United States in more than a decade.

“I don’t think the cantaloupe industry can continue on doing the very same thing and expecting a different result,” said Craig Wilson, the head of food safety for Costco, the Seattle-based warehouse retailer, which is regarded as a leader in requiring food safety measures from its suppliers.

Why would a private company do this?

It turns out that a company is more profitable when its products don’t kill its customers.
