Regulation – Private Sector Style

So, this past weekend my wife informed me that we were going to buy a new washer and dryer.

Fine.

Then she told me that she would appreciate it if I conducted some research and came up with a make and model before we went to the store.

Fine.

The entirety of my research was this:

google.com

“Do front load washers work”

When I found out that the stink and break, I went to step 2:

consumerreports.com

“Top Load Washers”

Sort – Price

I found the top rated set in the price range I wanted.  I looked to make sure there was more than a dozen reviews.

Then I wrote it down on my paper.

Total time invested – 7 minutes.

Confidence – High.

My point is that there aren’t any written rules that document how a manufacturer should create a well made and quality machine.  Rather, they have to answer to the market.  It is CRITICAL to these folks that they are rated high in Consumer Reports.  If they aren’t rated well, I don’t buy.

And neither do you.

Why that wouldn’t work for milk is beyond me.

The Liberals Of Today Don’t Remember The Lessons Of Yesterday

And it’s not their fault.  See, the Liberals of yesterday have grown up and become the Conservatives of today.

Our problem is that we keep having children who become Liberals for a short time before reaching full adulthood.

Now, to be sure, some of those kids become infatuated with the concept of Liberalism and make it a lifestyle, but by and large….our youth outgrow their Liberal tendencies nicely.

Which leads me to this point.

We know that the housing bubble lead to our current economic malaise.  AND we know what lead to the housing bubble.

The problem?  Yesterdays children don’t.

Capitalism And It’s Failure

I just ran into a post of mine on another blog that I wrote in 2008.

Good stuff – Enjoy.

We Dropped the Bomb 66 Years Ago: Look What Happened

Several days ago my friend over at Rational Republican posted about the plight of California.  A once great state relegated to the backwaters of the nation.

After years of continued liberal policies, the state that may very well have been the economic powerhouse of the nation is instead hemorrhaging people, earners and businesses.

It’s sad.

To put it into words, consider the years following the bombing of Japan.

See what the difference is between a pro-growth and pro-liberal mindset.

Consider Hiroshima and Detroit.

RR, you have to move.

The Cost of Flying Just Went Up – Thank Government

Thanks to the United States Government, the cost of flying from here to there is about to go up.

Why?

Economics.

Just as sure as you can’t change the laws of physics, you are unable to change the laws of economics.

Oh To Be Young Again

The benefits of youth!  See, when you’re young, there is no foul-you’re young!  Only be becoming old do you gain the sufficient life knowledge to enable you to see things differently.

There is a certain truth in the old quote:

If you aren’t Liberal in your 20’s, you have no heart.  If you aren’t conservative in your 40’s, you have no head.

With all that said, college kids get it, they just can’t believe it.

More On “Soak the Rich”

So, last night I presented data that demonstrated you would have to lift every single dime in income from those making $200,000 or more to cover the deficit.  Not pay the bill for the year, just pay the deficit.

What if we just go after those making $500,000 or more a year?  The really rich?

Start with a $1.5 trillion deficit.  Back out the taxes paid by those making over $500k.  You now have $1.85 trillion to cover.

How much do the folks who bring in $500,000 or more make as a group?  They make $1,270,000,000.  That’s it.

If you call being rich as making more than $500,000 a year rich, then you have to take all of it.  Everything they make.  ALL.  And you still are short $600,000,000,000.

You can not tax your way out of this.

Can We Tax The Rich Enough To Get Out Of Debt?

The battle lines are drawn.  On one side you have the conservatives demanding that we cut spending.  The other; we have to raise taxes on the rich.

The battle?  Well, the battle is the deficit.

So, who’s right, who’s wrong?  Let’s check it out.

The Cost Of Labor

How much does it cost to hire someone?  Or, better asked is this:

What has to be true in order to hire someone?

For many who champion “worker’s rights” the lesson is becoming crystal clear.

Thought On Affordable Housing

I spent an awesome weekend camping with an awesome bunch of guys and their awesome daughters.  6 dads, 6 girls.  Lots of fun; little sleep.

However, we did have the chance to talk loud and sound smart after the little princesses went to bed.  One night, after awhile, the conversation touched, touched I tell you, on politics and specifically the housing crisis.

I need your thoughts.
