Unions: The Beginning of the Beginning?

One thing is true.  Unions increase unemployment and raise the cost of goods.

Period.

The modern concept of Union is able to accomplish this by the force of sword and gun.  Laws have been passed that allow Unions to access the police force of the state to intervene on the Union’s behalf.  With this access, the Unions are able to negotiate benefits for themselves that would not otherwise be possible in a relationship between two parties.  In short, the Union uses legal coercion to obtain their benefits.

And this increases unemployment and raises the cost of good above what they otherwise would be.

The Hits Just Keep Comin’

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) on Friday evening introduced a revised 2011 government spending bill that the GOP said will cut at least $100 billion in spending this fiscal year, bowing to demands by Tea Party-backed House freshmen.

Kickin’ and screamin’ we’ll keep tryin’ to get this country back to where it needs to be!

More Good News From the Party of Tea

Just when I thought it couldn’t get better….it got better.

Republicans abandoned a bill to slash $74 billion in federal spending Thursday after coming under heavy pressure from Tea Party-backed freshmen to fulfill the party’s pledge of cutting $100 billion this year, House aides confirmed.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) had intended to release a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government after March 4 that would have cut $32 billion from current spending levels and $74 billion from Obama’s 2011 budget request. He outlined some of the major cuts in the CR on Wednesday.

But the GOP’s large bloc of Tea Party-backed freshmen resisted that plan, instead calling for the full $100 billion cut the party had promised in their “Pledge to America.”

We want this budget reduced.  We want spending reduced.  We want government reduced.

Do it.

What Is An “American”?

A while ago I was debating with a fellow blogger.  The subject was this:

What IS a “real American”?

My response:

Well, technically, you are real AND you are American, so—

However, America and being an American is more of an ideal than nationality. For example, it is very easy for citizens of other nations around the world to become “American”. I wouldn’t ever think that I would be “Japanese” should I ever obtain citizenship in Japan.

No. America and American is an ideal; a mindset. A mindset that says the individual is sovereign and does not serve the state. The ideal that the individual is given rights from Deity and that those rights are a priori to the state. That at it’s most basic form, the state is nothing but a collectivism that would protect individual rights.

A man has the right to his person, his life and his production. Should some one attempt to violate that, he would be acting within “justice” to prevent that restriction of his rights. The state then, is created to protect the rights of the individual.

Liberals do not believe in this. Liberals feel tha the state comes first and that rights and Liberty are derived from the state. Following, you believe that it is the roper role of government to provide for the needs of the citizens absent any restriction of individual rights. And you feel that to enforce this proper role of state, you can legislate it to be so.

And so it is that you legislate theft.

If you were to ring my doorbell and ask that I provide for the shelter and relief of my neighbor and I say no, you would walk away; perhaps upset, perhaps sad perhaps disgusted. But it would not occur to you to use force of gun or sword to coerce me to provide access to my production in an attempt to provide for my neighbor.

So, instead, you use the force of the state. Rather than knock and ask, you legislate and demand.

THAT is what people mean when they say people aren’t “American”. It means you are not living the ideas that are uniquely American.

Yeah, About That Whole Stuck Accelerator Thing?

So, I wonder how many people who heaped blame on Toyota will admit they were wrong?

The Department of Transportation, in its long-awaited report on Toyota’s infamous accelerators, has concluded that cases of cars suddenly speeding off on their own were the result of either sticky pedals, floor mats jammed against the pedals or, quite simply, driver error. In fact, the report cites driver error for most of the mishaps.

Nice.  Driver error.

And for this General Motors The American Government caused untold damages against Toyota.

Go government!

Infant Mortality

The United States gets hammered on its global infant mortality rating.  Liberals never tire of pointing out that the United States rates no higher than 29th compared to other nations.

And as we continue to debate health care in this country, this number continues to have relevance; at least to the uninformed.

Out of the Mouths of Babes

It was shortly after the Tucson shootings that the talk around the proverbial water cooler began to center around the tone of our political discourse.  Some felt that the aggressiveness of the conversation led people, admittedly unbalanced people, to veer over the fine line they were walking and snap.

I tried to shape that conversation in such a manner to ensure what we were talking about was political tone on BOTH sides of the great divide.  I wanted to make the point that unless the conversation of “tamping it down” was done in a bi-partisan manner, the effect would be that of a lecture.

I failed in my attempt.
