Big Government: Lip Service

Check THIS out:

As temperatures and humidity dropped this fall, parents in Johnston County learned about an unusual policy change in the schools.

Students can no longer bring lip balm to school without a note.

And why would the school do something like this?

Schools spokeswoman Terri Sessoms said the rule is in place to prevent the spread of germs when children share the sticks.

Now look, the schools should try to increase the health of—the schools.  That is, the food they cook, the water they offer and the common areas they provide.

Saying that kids can’t bring lip balm?

Stupid.

Value Based Decisions

We make ’em every day.

Do we want this product knowing that if we buy it, we won’t be able to have that product.

This for that.

Is it worth it for me?

Confusion in Durham

It’s heating up.  And something has to be done.

We need strong leadership on the issue and we need it now.

Sadly, Obama isn’t gonna be the guy to do it.

1.  He simply doesn’t know HOW to lead.  Which, of course, has been my main complaint all along.

2.  He doesn’t WANNA lead right now because it’ll interfere with his election prospects.

So, it’s left to the states and the towns.

And THIS is what you get when that happens:

Sacrifice

There’s an old saw that says:

There’s a reason it’s called “Risk Taking”.  If there wasn’t, they’d call it “Sure Thing Taking”.

The same holds true regarding decisions of fiscal responsibility.

State Sponsored Cheating

Here is how Democrats win elections:

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A public university in North Carolina is smarting after someone at the school sent an e-mail to students and employees urging them to vote early and help the Democratic Party.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported Wednesday the e-mail was sent from the student-affairs division to about 6,400 staffers and students at Winston-Salem State University.

Manipulating elections is only illegal if your not a Democrat.

Hurricane Update: September Review

Jeepers.

We had more named storms in September than we had all year up to that point.

For those of you keeping track at home we’re at:

  • Named Storms – 14
  • Hurricanes – 7
  • Major Hurricanes – 5

The prediction for the year was most recently updated to:

  • 14 – 20 Named Storms
  • 8 – 12 Hurricanes
  • 4 – 6 Major Hurricanes

By the end of September the prediction called for:

  • 5 – 7 Named Storms
  • 3 – 4 Hurricanes
  • 2 – 3 Major Hurricanes

We are virtually at the full year’s predictions with all of October and November left.

Looks like they were right and I was wrong.

You Can’t Do It

I’m listening to the Brad and Britt show this morning.  The topic of the hour is taxes and health care.  Both are timely and appropriate topics.  Health care reform is being implemented soon, or at least portions of it.  And taxes, well, taxes have been the hot topic because of the expiration of the “Bush Tax Cuts” as well as the new Republican “Pledge to America” that’s being released this afternoon.

Both topics are fascinating.  And, to a degree, related.

Any way, while discussing the reforms that are kicking in soon, Brad takes the stand that if you object to Health Care Reform, you can’t take advantage of it.  “You Can’t Do It” he yells, “You Can’t Do It”.

This, of course, is asinine.

Great News for Third Party Candidates

For ever we’ve had to pick our leaders from one of the two main political parties.  And the problem with that is we tend, especially lately, is that the primaries seems to give us only the most extreme candidates that each party has to offer.

If you want moderation, or if you want something other than the party line down the line, you’re kinda oughta luck.

Want a fiscal conservative but a social moderate?  Good luck.

Want a social liberal but a fiscal moderate?  Again, good luck.

So it seems that we’re stuck in the middle.  Sending our “Knights” out to do battle that look like every knight before him.

Rather depressing.

But there may be a way out.

Hurricane Season: Update

Wowie wow wow!

Here comes the storms.

Igor went from baby to monster just like that.  And behind him is tropical storm Julia.

That puts us at:

  • Named storms – 10
  • Hurricanes – 4
  • Major Hurricanes – 3
  • Landfall – 0

Right about now, we should have expected to see 7-10 named storms with 4-6 hurricanes.

Right on track.

North Carolina 4th

Big BIG news in North Carolina.

See, there is a guy in the United States House of Representatives that votes with Nancy Pelosi.  A lot.  I mean, a REAL lot.

Like 98.9% of the time David Price votes with Nancy Pelosi. That means that we have a member of Congress in our District voting as if he had the interests of California at heart.  CALIFORNIA!

David Price has got to go!

And some good news:
