Best Month

Ever.

As I realized that I wasn’t providing content, I stepped it up.

The result?

I have had the best month ever here.  With 5 days to go.

Markets and Brett Favre

HA!

He’s back.  The NFL adjusts, the Vikings adjust and the Saints will adjust.

But markets?

Yup, them too.

Senate Race 2010: IX

I have been tracking the whole Brett Favre thing; especially in Vegas and then on Intrade.  And while I was there this morning I stopped by the Midterm Senate race page and saw this:

The Number of seats expected to be held by the Republicans that clears 50% has gone up 1 from 47 to 48.  The market is clearing at 48 seats!

Excellent news on a Wednesday morning.  Almost as good as seeing the chances of Brett Favre playing again at 96%.

The Eagle Has Landed

I rediscovered The Sports Economist the other day. And was immediately impressed with their post on Brett Favre.

Basically, the Sports Economist was saying that the Vegas odds changed when Favre “announced” his retirement on August 3rd.

On August 2nd, odds showed the Vikings with a 38% (+130) chance of winning the NFC North, with that number dropping to 32%(+175) by the morning of August 4th.

With those reports being largely ignored, the Favre numbers in Vegas were at:

Vikings at +150 as of August 16th.

Now that reports have Favre coming home, we are at:

Minnesota Not Being Shown

It would appear that Vegas doesn’t wanna show the odds of a Minnesota NFC North Championship or ANY NFC North chance at all until Favre announces Wednesday!

Go #4.

Not Nightmare – Daymare

I had a dream last night that Barck Obama wasn’t President.

Then I woke up.

Very scary.

Site Hits

So, back in March and April I was excited because traffic to the site increased by 300% over the previous few months.  I thought I was “on my way.”  Whatever THAT means.

However, May and June not only failed to increase traffic, those months actually came in with LESS traffic than the previous months.

July?  Well, slightly better than June, it’s still well below March and April.

As the month came to an end I was bummed.  I enjoy doing this because it’s a hobby; I have fun AND I learn a lot.  But I admit, part of it is an addiction to readers.  And I was stalling even slowing.

I blamed it on summer, lack of interest and all kinds of other things having little to do with me.  Then I noticed something:

I posted just over a third as often as I did in March, just under half of what I posted in April.

Funny thing that free market.  When less is offered for sale, less will be “purchased.”

Also, powerful lesson in cause and effect.  More often the thing that I want but don’t have has more to do with me, my attitude and my effort than any other single cause.

As I often say;

Go. Do.

Love Your Math Teacher

Math is great; don’t let anyone tell ya differently.  When kids say “When am I EVER gonna use this in real life?” you can now say “When it comes to keepin’ your house”.

I’ve always said that math, the kinda math that we teach in high school–not Mathematics that we teach in college Math degree courses– is more of an exercise in thinking than really providing deep insightful understanding into the science, indeed art, of mathematics.  In much the same way we would never expect a football player to encounter a line of old auto tires and have to step through ’em in a game, I never would expect someoone to encounter the need to demonstrate that triangle A is congruous to triangle B in real life.

But the ability to get from here to there is a skill that is most useful in life; even to the point of getting and keeping a home.

Proper Role of Government

Catching alligators:

Hope Mills, N.C. — Wildlife officers on Tuesday captured an alligator that has been swimming in Hope Mills Lake for the past two weeks.

Though even gators, it seems, have the sense God gave a dog:

“He was a wild gator. He was moving and evading us pretty good,” Lt. Brent Spivey of the Wildlife Resources Commission said.

And while I typically rail against Democrats, you have to give ’em credit for their wiley ways:

“We tried several techniques that didn’t work. So we decided to try to snag him with a small hook,” wildlife biologist Tom Padgett said.

Thank God for government.

The More Liberal You Are – The Less You Know About Economics

Absolutely fascinating.  Though not surprising.

A study was done by Zogby.  In it, 4,835 people were asked 8 questions on economics.

The results are in.  And they don’t look pretty if you are a Leftist.

Going Green: Free Market Style

Imagine a combination of Green Peace and Ayn Rand. A sort of free market approach to protest the free market.

Got it?  Great.  Cause it makes MY head hurt.

But it would seem that’s exactly what’s going on in a restaurant in Sydney.
