I had a very fascinating conversation today about Human Rights and whether or not Health Care is a Basic Human Right.
In these kinds of conversations or debates, it is rare when one party or the other actually “wins”. That is, changes the mind of the other person. But I think I did today.
See, it’s my claim that a “Human Right” is something as defined in the Declaration of Independence. That is, it is unalienable and comes our Creator. In short, a Basic Human Right is something that exists before the institutions built by man. Or, another way, exists without anyone having to DO anything.
To “have” health care means someone has to, literally HAS TO, do something. And that would mean you have a claim on that person’s Liberty.
And you don’t.
Health Care is no more a Basic Human Right than is National Defense.
If there were HMO’s in Jefferson’s time, it most certainly would have been in the Constitution.
Funny how it’s a right in every other developed country except ours.

And those nations are buckling under the weight of their systems.
