The Tea Party and The Gay Vote

Tuesday was powerful.  The shift in American politics was one not seen in 60 or more years.

In fact, if you go to the State level, the shift was so massive that it may literally have been unprecedented.  The number of State seats that shifted from the Democrats to the Republicans was devastating to the Democrats.  And it was virtually complete.

And behind the whole thing was the Tea Party.

Not the crazy loons the Left Wing trotted out in front of the news broadcasts to be sure.  But the disciplined message that we are focused on fiscal issues that impact the economy.

Liberty by Law.

Now, if those same Tea Party organizers, voters and candidates continue down the natural path of recognizing Liberty, extending Liberty and running on that message, the coalition will only get stronger.

This means moving away from the Religious Right and embracing all people of all cultures, creeds and orientation.

And all indications show the shift is already underway:

(Washington, D.C.) – Exit polling reveals that gay and lesbian voters played a critical role in the Republican Party’s historic gains in the U.S. House on Tuesday night. According to CNN, 31% of self-identified gay voters supported Republican candidates for the U.S. House. This number is a dramatic increase from the 19% GOP House candidates won among gay voters in 2008. “Exit polling makes it clear gay voters played an important role in bringing conservative leadership to Congress,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, Executive Director of GOProud, the only national organization representing gay conservatives and their allies. “It also proves something we have been saying for months now – that the Tea Party’s message of limiting government is something that appeals to many gay Americans.”

I have been saying for years now that by denying the very existence of a specific group of people will only serve to alienate the otherwise faithful within that population.  In other words, if conservatives outnumber liberals in the general population, there is no reason to believe that conservatives wouldn’t outnumber liberals in the gay community as well.  And only by denying the very self identifying characteristic would those voters be forced to abandon their self interests.

And this too is being seen more and more:

“Gay people are just like other average Americans. We see the challenges our country faces and many of us are outraged at the failed big government approach of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi,” said LaSalvia. “GOProud will continue to provide a home and a voice to those gay conservatives.”

Now, to be sure, just as there are Liberal freakin’ loon in the general public, there are the freakin’ Liberal Loons that seem to think they speak for the Gay community as a whole:

Let me be clear: gay people who vote for Republicans need to have their heads examined.

And even better?  Even better than the fact he is willing to insult conservative gay Americans is the fact that more important than representing that very Gay American is the fact that he can’t leave the idea that anyone who doesn’t support him and his people are simply racists:

And, as I said after the presidential election in 2008, the difference in the gay vote for Kerry in 2004 and the gay vote for Obama in 2008 is a rough measure of just how many rabid gay racists are out and out there.

Watch for these far Left-Loons, and avoid them like the plague.

  1. I think you make some fantastic comments. I hope that we can move forward and not in the sense of using this election as a stepping stone to taking power in 2012 by playing games but by leading the country to a better future based on these values.

The message of this and even the 2008 election is that to Americans, it’s not about Power. That it’s not the same as choosing between rooting for Duke or UNC, as our Media would hope we would, it’s about making decisions that are in the best interest of the country; establishing policies that most, and I mean 2/3 of the people will agree on, not playing to a Politicians base or whomever donated to the campaign.

In other words, it’s the Politicians….Stupid.

We need to reform the politicians and we did to an extent by voting on Tuesday but not enough. Yes we need to cut spending, we need to balance the budget, we need less government, we need to eliminate pork, earmarks and lobbyists and we need an environment that fosters economic growth with enough “reasonable” oversight to prevent companies from doing what’s solely in their best interest (maximizing profits) as opposed to what’s best for business in America.

However, in my opinion more than anything we need to change the politicians. We need them to understand that the founders envisioned this “privilege” as a form of “service” to our country, not an entitlement, not a career, not a grab for power or to keep it. In many ways the media has made it so painful to run for office that no one any good actually runs anymore, because its not worth subjecting yourself to that scrutiny. Either they have too much money and power already and don’t care what most of us think or they literally have nothing to lose and sell out to whatever constituency will throw money their way.

Putting people like this in power is analogous to appointing Lindsay Lohan the Drug Czar. They can’t stop themselves

We need good people to step up and say enough nonsense. We need them to take direction from the country not a lobbyist or special interest group. Ultimately we need them to work together because the way the system is today, no side is going to concede that the other is right because neither side is, and until we can find politicians that will work together and compromise were going to play this back and forth power struggle all the way into third or fourth place behind Rome and Great Britain as the greatest fallen Empires……

      Thanks Bob.

That IS the message that we need to establish. Hard sleddin’ though!
