Pertinent Definitions

For review:

Racism – a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

Bigot – a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially :  one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

Note the difference.

Prejudice – (1) :  preconceived judgment or opinion (2) :  an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge.

Discrimination – the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually.

I think that recent events warrant this review.

  1. In point of fact, there are 3 definitions of racism. You only listed one. Let me highlight another, which is relevant to recent events.

Racism: a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

    Please note the semi-colon there.

It is my opinion that these terms are incorrectly applied today. As for your definition, I take it to mean State sponsored racism.

      • Just a “privilege” means different treatment by the law. For example, I cannot imagine a bunch of white guys would ever be granted “a safe place to destroy”…

  2. I think the latter part of the definition of Bigot spills way too far over into racism. Personally, I cling strongly to even my most idiotic of opinions and often care little to none about anyone else’s, whether they be even less or more stupid. That, by definition, should make me a bigot, right?! 😉

Yet as a Capitalist I find that I hardly, if ever, notice race except in the case of derka derkaism (radical islamic violence) or rapstar-wannabe thuggery, but even then I split my categories into “normal people” vs. “pieces of shit”.

Please help, I’m having an identity crisis! 🙂
