Don't Ask Don't Tell: Time To End It

It’s long past time for the Government to enter the modern era.  In a time when being LBGT is becoming less and less a consideration when hiring or promoting someone, the military continues to exclude members of its workforce for that very reason.

For a very long time, I never really gave much thought to this.  I was never in danger of being called into service and had no aspirations of going into the service as a career.  So, really, being an ignorant youngster, I didn’t care.  Today, I am very much LESS likely to serve in the military but I am very much more concerned with the policy.  Which makes me happy when I see this:

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday approved new rules that will make it harder to discharge gays from the military, calling the changes a matter of “common sense and common decency.”

It’s long past time.  Long past time to begin to judge a man by his skills, his value to the organization and ability to affect change.  Further, it violates the tenant most dear to us Tarheels; Liberty.  It is completely senseless to deny a woman her Liberty solely on an accidental and arbitrary facet of one’s personal life.

Now the government just needs to continue this extension of personal Liberties to the contract that is State Marriage.
