For every decision there is a consequence.
Every action, they say an equal but opposite reaction. Not acting is, in a way, a decision.
I wonder how the Left feels about military assistance now?
AJDABIYAH, Libya — Moammar Gadhafi’s jets bombed Libyan rebel strongholds on Monday, aiding a counter-offensive that has pushed insurgents 100 miles eastward in a week…
…
Behind rebel lines, Libyan planes bombed Ajdabiyah on Monday, the only sizeable town between Brega and the rebel stronghold of Benghazi. From Ajdabiyah there are roads to Benghazi and to Tobruk to the east, which could allow Gadhafi’s troops to encircle Benghazi.
An indication on how far to the left the US has moved?
France pressed for a no-fly zone “as fast as possible.”
France. France is calling for a stronger military action than we are.
And what happens as we continue to allow this to continue?
There is now a very real possibility that by the time world powers agree on a response to the conflict in Libya, Gadhafi’s forces may already have won.
Look. I’m all for lettin’ the world burn. And I’l all for steppin’ in a helpin’ out. But either way, we’re ALL in or ALL out.
Just sayin’.
This is more about vital national interests than anything else.
The French derive a much higher proportion of their oil from Libya than the United States does.
I am not trying to defend the Obama administration, but this is a straight cost / benefit analysis. The cost to intervene outweighs the benefits we might derive from said intervention.

HA! I forgot all about that!
I am not trying to defend the Obama administration
I am. I am all for letting the world police itself for some time now.

Totally agree.
I’m with you on this one. We should get help to the rebels pronto, before they lose everything that they fought so hard for.

Hi Tin,
This is what I’m talking about…..Justifying the use of military force is a tough call.
My emotions want to send missiles into Gaddafi’s home and main government buildings, confiscate all his wealth (and his family’s) and if he survives, capture him and turn him over to the rebels. My head says that the US will be risking a lot if we do anything but play a part in a UN approved international response. However it comes out, we should do all we can to assure that if Gaddafi survives he can’t access his funds, can’t travel (not even to the UN), and has no legitimacy.
Also, I think we need to stop kissing Saudi a**. They are more repressive than Saddam was, but because they have oil we think we have to stay on their good side. Oil is an international commodity. The Saudis can’t punish us by cutting oil production without punishing the world — and limiting their own income. Let’s get on the right side of history this time.

The difference between “us” and “you is that we make wishes come true! 😉

Would that include trial?
Yes, that would include a trial. I am very impressed that they got a UN Security Council resolution passed 10-0 with five abstentions. 10 is an important number because you need 9 yes votes to pass anything, and they wanted to make sure they had more than nine, as well as no no votes. Russia and China were never going to back denying Libya’s sovereign right to assert power on their own territory, so Gaddafi thought he was safe. Somehow they were convinced to abstain. The next few days and weeks should be interesting.
