Jon Stewart Blinked

Anthony Weiner is a dumb ass.  We knew this long before his recent history making revelations.  However, now we know about his history making revelations.

And, if you have any kind of sense of humor, his history making revelations are hilarious.

Just the kind of story for Jon.

But Anthony is a friend.  And so Jon let him off.

Jon Stewart claims he’s a comedian and that he just makes fun of the political theater in front of him.  But he doesn’t.

He had The Weiner in his sights.  And he blinked.

He’s a good friend.  But he’s not just a “political comedian” either.

  2. Jon Stewart spent plenty of time on the Wiener story (no pun intended).

Are you suggesting Stewart disregard all loyalty to family or friends for the sake of journalistic integrity? Really?

And… in my opinion Jon Stewart is a “political comedian.” Naturally he IS going to have a political agenda–who doesn’t? I can say, as a republican and a big fan of his show, he plays jokes on both sides. I feel much of his popularity is due to do his bipartisanism.

Dude. Weiner was comedy gold. Even before this specific episode, the sophomoric nature of all of us giggled every time he was interviewed. Serious. His name is Anthony Weiner:

      Tony Weiner.

Stewart ran with it for awhile. But as it became clear that Weiner was lying and that it was gonna cost him his job; Jon stopped. He let the story go.

Are you suggesting Stewart disregard all loyalty to family or friends for the sake of journalistic integrity?

      First, Stewart isn’t a journalist.

And no, I’m not suggesting that at all.

What I’m suggesting is that Jon Stewart is a comedian [gifted by the way] that has a distinct liberal bias and agenda. When he interviews on Fox News and says he isn’t really politically driven, I call bunk.

      That’s all.

  3. pino, Stewart spent nearly a week on Weiner. He started gentle, saying he was a friend, but as the story deepened and Weiner’s actions looked worse and worse, Stewart got pretty agressive. I remember thinking ot myself, “He must have thought this out. He must know they’re not going to be friends after this.”

Stewart admits readily to being a liberal and says that ‘informs’ his humor. Not bunk. Simply a true description of what he does. Politics didnt drive him to comedy; it’s not why he’s a comedian. I htink he was pretty clear on.Wallace.

Dennis Miller wasn’t driven to comedy by politics. He’s a comic first and his political attitudes ‘inform; his humor.

They’re not politically driven. They have beleifs. It’s not bunk.

    Really. 🙂

    • as the story deepened and Weiner’s actions looked worse and worse, Stewart got pretty agressive.

But he stopped well short of the resignation. There is just a shit load of mockery that is due this man.

Note, my beef is not that Jon mocks people, he’s a comedian and he’s incredibly gifted. Rather my beef is that he claims not to have an agenda.

      He does.

He isn’t just a liberal comic that calls ’em as he see ’em. He is delivering messages. If this were a conservative rather than a liberal, he’d have hammered him all the way through. But he let Weiner off the hook.

I agree. But Miller doesn’t say he doesn’t have an agenda.

      • I just have to keep disagreeing pino. Stewart is upfront about his liberalism – just being a liberal does not an agenda make.

I’m not sure if your argument is ‘shame on him’ for not going all the way turning on his friend, or whether he went soft cuz he has a liberal agenda.

I think Stewart is like a modern Mark Twain. Fiercely intelligent, calling out teh stupid wherever he finds it.

      • I’m not sure if your argument is ‘shame on him’ for not going all the way turning on his friend, or whether he went soft cuz he has a liberal agenda.

I probably wasn’t giving enough weight to his friendship with Weiner. If I didn’t poke fun at a friend it would be because he was my friend, not because he was conservative.

But yes, my main point is that he didn’t hammer Weiner because Weiner is a massive liberal. However, as mentioned, I failed to give enough credence to the whole friendship aspect.

And, in retrospect, I was probably wrong.

      • I’ll just say re Stewart/Weiner, I wouldn’t ever want to be in the position Stewart found himself in.

  4. I don’t know guys – he’s a buddy of Weiner’s and obviously his buddy is going through a difficult time in his marriage. If that was one of your friends, how bad would you skewer him on national tv? If it were me I’d leave the majority of it up to the many other comics out there who would surely do as good or better of a job in this instance. It’s not like Stewart “owed” us jokes on the matter.

Had he gone the other way and totally roasted Weiner for the whole scandal (forgive the pun), how would he not come across looking like a callous, egotistical a$$hole? They’ve been close friends a very long time.

      Fair enough.

I cede my position to the floor.

      • Ah, Pino, that was too easy! Stewart DID wuss out, regardless of the reason. Screw it – you’re paid millions and your friend was an idiot. He SHOULD have went at it! 🙂

  5. I agree with pino. Jon Stewart is far more vicious with right wingers than he is with left wingers . The only comedian I can think of who is fair with political humor is Jay Leno .
