Limits

I’m pretty tolerant.  I’m willing to bear a bunch and walk away feeling pretty good that I represented myself well.

I like love.

I like forgiveness.

I like that whole “Turn the other cheeck” thing.

But some things are just too much.

And the hullabaloo over this Ground Zero mosque is reachin’ that point.

I get that Islam is a religion; a religion of peace and of love.  And I get the fact that the extremists abusing that religion are just that; extremists.  They are not to represent the massive majority of real peace loving Muslims.

But how long do we have to contend with those outliers?  How long does what THEY think and feel outweigh what I think and feel.

And this guy Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is pushing me right up to the limit:

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf told CNN that the discourse surrounding the center has become so politicized that moving it could strengthen the ability of extremists abroad to recruit and wage attacks against Americans, including troops fighting in the Middle East.

“The headlines in the Muslim world will be that Islam is under attack,” he said…

Now, to his credit [?] he IS willing to work this out:

…he added that he was open to the idea of moving the planned location of the center, currently two blocks north of the World Trade Center site.

But again, there is a caveat:

“But if you don’t do this right, anger will explode in the Muslim world,” he later said, predicting that the reaction could be more furious than the eruption of violence following the 2005 publication of Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

I’m tiring very quickly of caring what this extreme subset of people feel.  And more and more becoming frustrated with how they are dictating our policy.
