Bug or Feature

One of the most powerful hammers Obama used during the health care debate was the cost of care in America.  And he hammered hard; so hard that people were so stunned that failed to think it through.  Spending more may actually be a sign that we are BETTER off than any other nation in the world.

American’s are better off right now that at any time in history.  After we pay for food, clothing and shelter, we have more money left over that an another time.  Ever.  Is it a surprise that we would spend that extra money on things that involve our health?

An example of this is Celine Dion and her fertility treatments.

I stumbled on another example today via Reason:

Many egg donation agencies and private couples routinely exceed compensation recommendation limits for potential donors, a new study finds.

From a sample of over 300 college newspapers, findings revealed that almost one-quarter of advertisements offered payment in excess of $10,000, a violation of guidelines issued by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

Of the advertisements violating ASRM guidelines, many offered $20,000, several offered $35,000, and one was as high as $50,000.

Lemme get this straight.  Obama says that we spend more than any other country in the world.  And he says this as if it’s a bad thing.  Why does Obama hate people who wanna be parents and are willing to pay $50,000 just for the egg?

We were beat on style not on substance.

Damn it!
