Elections Have Implications

When a candidate runs his campaign on the promise of no home work on Fridays, and wins, you can assume that the folks feel we shouldn’t have home work on Fridays.  When another candidate runs on a suite of issues all rolled into one common theme and she wins…you can say that the folks are pretty interested in that one common philosophy.  And finally, when one party is elected into office because of a wave of support from the folks…you can claim that the folks want that party to change things up.

You can.

You won’t always be right.

In this case the Democrats rode the Obama populism wave right into power.  They won the White House.  The won a super majority in the Senate.  And the extended their lead in the House.  In short, the folks wanted what the Democrats were sellin’.  Or so it seemed.

It turns out that what the folks wanted was a more moderate and people friendly version of what we had for the last 8 years.  They were tired of war.  They were tired of the restriction of Liberty.  They were tired of Constitution bending policies.  They wanted moderation.  To throw open the windows and blow out the cobwebs of winter and let in the freshness of spring.

That’s what the people thought they elected.

It wasn’t.

What they elected was a a group of people that took the bait and swam as far Left as they possibly could; and fast.  They didn’t change much of what people didn’t like.  The economy went from bad to worse.  And the fixes weren’t fixing.  Further, the ides of health care and Tax and Cap fizzled in the sun.

Then, Scott Brown finished an election “cycle” that stunned the Democrats.  They lost Virgina and New Jersey.  And the unthinkable was about to happen; Scott Brown.  Nothing could have punched Obama in the nose like the Kennedy’s losing their Health Care seat to a rookie Republican.  But punch him it did.  Everything stopped in a day.  Health Care is way off track.  Cap and Trade is next to dead.  All of it has to be reconsidered.

And it appears to be working:

An administration official says President Obama next will announce the first loan guarantee for a nuclear power plant in nearly three decades, to the Southern Company in Georgia.

The Obama administration’s planned loan guarantee to build the first nuclear power plant in the United States in almost three decades is part of a broad shift in energy strategy to lessen dependence on foreign oil and reduce the use of other fossil fuels blamed for global warming.

Obama next week will announce the loan guarantee to build the nuclear power plant, an administration official said Friday. The two new Southern Co. reactors to be built in the state of Georgia, are part of a White House energy plan that administration officials hope will draw Republican support.

I love it!  Finally a move to moderation.  A move from the endless and mindless rhetoric that he used to win.  Finally a move to common sense.

Let’s just hope it works.
